Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus varius)
Black and white with yellowish lowers. Found in forests with clearings, and during migration, in parks, yards, and gardens. Generally nests in tree cavities excavated by other birds. This bird is comparatively silent as compared to other woodpecker species. It is also the least conspicuous, hitching around to the opposite side of tree trunks when approached. Eight and one-half inches in Length. Weight, 1.8 ounces.
