Purple Finch (Carpodacus purpureus)
Raspberry colored breasts and sides. Uniformly red head distinguishes male. Found in mixed woods, forests, and suburban yards. Nests in twigs, grasses, and rootlets in trees. Feeds on sunflower, thistle, and millet seed scattered on the ground and from scattered seeds including millet, cracked corn, and hulled sunflower. Length is 6 inches. Weight, 0.7 ounces.
