Downy Woodpecker- Male (Picoides pubescens)
Male displays spots on black wings, white belly and back with a distinctive large red patch on the top of the head. Found in woods, farmlands, and in suburbs. Nests in cavities of dead wood. Prefers a feeder diet of suet and hulled sunflower seed. Six inches in length. Weight, 1.1 ounces.
